Helpful Info, Trophy Care Tips & What to Expect

Whether it’s your first mount or your tenth, we know you may have questions — and we’re here to help. From trophy care in the field to shipping, turnaround times, and pose selection, here are answers to the questions we get most. If you don’t see what you’re looking for, feel free to contact us directly — we’re always happy to talk shop.

  • What should I do with my animal immediately after the harvest?

Keep the animal as cool and dry as possible. Do not drag it on its face or shoulders, and avoid excessive handling of the hide. For birds, keep feathers clean and dry — do not gut or breast them out.

  • How should I store a cape or full animal before bringing it in?

If you can't bring it in right away, freeze the cape or entire small animal in a plastic bag to avoid freezer burn. Be sure to remove as much air as possible before sealing.

  • Do you accept out-of-state work or shipped trophies?

Yes! We regularly work with clients outside of Illinois. If you need to ship your trophy to us, contact us first for instructions to ensure it's packed and preserved correctly.

  • What poses are available for deer and other mounts?

We offer upright, semi-upright, full sneak, custom altered, and full-body mounts — plus pedestal options. If you're unsure, we’ll help you choose based on the animal and your space.

  • What’s the typical turnaround time for a mount?

Turnaround times can vary depending on the season and the type of mount, but most projects are completed within 13–15 months. We’ll give you an estimate when you book your piece.

  • How much does a mount cost?

Prices vary by species and pose. Check our Pricing Page for details, or contact us for a custom quote. Prices are subject to change based on material costs.

  • Can I request a custom base or habitat scene?

Absolutely. We offer customized basework and habitat detailing, especially for pedestal and full-body mounts. Let us know your vision, and we’ll make it happen.

  • Do you require a deposit?

Yes, we require a 50% deposit to begin work. The amount will depend on the type of mount. We’ll provide details when you schedule your piece.

  • What’s the best way to handle a turkey I want mounted?

For turkeys, keep as clean as possible and dry as possible. Pack zip lock bags, zip ties, and paper towels in your pack. Before moving the bird, place one paper towel in the beak/throat, wrap the head in another 3-4 paper towels, then place head in the zip lock bag and zip tie shut. This helps keep blood off the feathers and off you when you carry them out. If you need to freeze, place in a trash bag until you can deliver.

  • How can I keep my finished mount looking great long-term?

Keep mounts out of direct sunlight and away from heat or moisture. Dust them gently with a soft brush or cloth. If you ever notice fading, damage, or need repairs, contact us for advice or restoration.
